Talk or Someone Else Will

Talk or Someone Else Will

Have you ever had a conversation with someone who could benefit from your business services, but you didn’t mention what you do?  Perhaps this was an exercise in humility.  You didn’t want to sound arrogant by broadcasting what you do.  Maybe it was self-preservation.  You don’t feel ready for clientele, so you don’t say anything.

There may be fitting explanations for what you did, but let me share an alternative opinion.  Failing to share what you do was a lost opportunity that someone else may intercept.  If you won’t talk, your potential customer may run into someone who will.

That’s what Jesus said to the Pharisees in Luke 19.  They were upset because people were praising Him.  He told them, “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers” (Luke 19:40, NLT).  Jesus understood what I’m sharing in this post.  Others will seize the moment when people are silent.

What are some good reasons to talk about your business other than to avoid a missed opportunity?  Here are three for you:

1) SAKE OF CONVERSATION: Securing sales is something you get better at with practice, so the more you do it the better you will be.  Talking about your business frequently will help you become more comfortable sharing what you do.  It can also help you condense and conform your pitch to a variety of audiences.  Just opening your mouth and talking about your business is beneficial even without a sale.

2) SECURE CLIENTELE: This is the ultimate reason to talk about what you do.  How can you get customers if they don’t know what you do?  Each time you think someone can benefit from what you do, share something relevant about your business.  You never know who has been waiting to hear from someone just like you!

3) SEEK COLLABORATORS: I’ve grown to understand that you can’t achieve your business potential alone.  You need help.  A great way to find the help you need is by talking about what you do.  Someone you converse with may be the collaborator you need in an area of deficiency.  You can find that person if you talk about what you do.

If you’ve been too humble or unprepared to market your business, then it’s time for a change.  If you don’t talk about your business, your future customers may find someone in your industry who will.  Talk about what you do.  It’s good for the sake of conversation, to secure clientele, and to seek collaborators.  If you talk about what you do, I decree and declare that you will excel at your pitch, have more customers than ever before, and find the help you need to take your business to its potential!
